Description

For the first time in a rather long time, something finally came out of my Photoshop that I really like. Of course, there are things that could be fixed, such as the water, and there are other things that as of right now cannot be fixed, such as the mane and tail, as I am naturally horrible at hair and my tablet's pressure sensitivity is broken so out the window go good manes and tails.

Hi there!
First of all, this is quite a good manipulation. I am by no means an expert in manips though, so I don't have all the... practical knowledge. But I'll do my best.

Vision: I really like the composition of this piece. The way the trees sort of frame the picture is really nice. It draws your eyes straight to the subject. And the blur in the background makes the sharpness of the horse stand out all the more. Also, I like how it is darker towards the front where the viewer is, it makes it seem like we are peering out of the bushes to see the horse galloping by. Very well done!

Originality: It's not the most original idea, but I like how the horse is half over land, half over water. Also, as said before, I like the "framing" of the trees.

Technique: What struck me the first about this was the slightly skewed lighting. From looking at this picture, I can't tell exaclty where the light source is. This is because most of the horse has been outlined in a bright light. This makes it look as if the sun is right behind it, and therefore outlines the entire horse. But looking at the background image, that is not the case. So a tip would be to carefully choose where the light hits the horse, and only outline those parts. You could use various shades of white, yellow and background colors all around, gradually going to darkest on the parts that receive no light, like under the tail. I really like the splash, it looks very realistic and really shows the movement! Well done. The reflection is also a nice idea, but perhaps it would be better if you distorted it a bit. Especially since the horse just splashed into the water, the water wouldn't be flat enough to have such a smooth reflection. Lastly, considering your tablet has no pen pressure, I think you did a wonderful job on the mane and tail!

Impact: It's a very beautiful piece, and I really liked it. My only real quibble is the lighting, so other than that, it's a wonderful job! Well done <3
